01Our Story

How the firm works.

Techsage is structured around judgement, not utilisation. Here is what that means in practice.

A firm, not a freelancer

Techsage is a standing practice, not one person’s calendar. Engagements are scoped, staffed and delivered by the firm, with the accountability that implies — a named point of contact, a documented plan, and continuity if an engagement runs long or a practitioner’s focus needs to shift. Clients contract with Techsage; Techsage assembles the people the work requires.

The network model

Rather than carry a large bench of generalists, we draw on a network of senior, independent practitioners in OpenShift, Ansible, networking and security — engaged for the depth a specific engagement needs, not because they happen to be available. This keeps every engagement staffed by people who have done the exact work before, rather than people learning it on the clock.

From first fortnight to handover

An engagement opens with discovery: current state, constraints, risk tolerance, and what “done” has to mean for the people who inherit the platform. The opening discovery phase produces a written plan the client can hold us to. From there we build in reviewable increments, and we close every engagement with a formal handover — runbooks, decisions and a team that understands what we left behind, not only what we built.

The documentation standard

Nothing we build is considered finished until someone who was not in the room can operate it. Architecture decisions are recorded with their reasoning, not only their outcome. Automation is written for the engineer reading it at short notice, not for the engineer who wrote it. This is the standard we hold ourselves to whether or not a client asks for it.

AI operations: our own production system, first

Our AI-operations practice did not begin as a service line — it began as the tooling we built to run Techsage itself, drafting, reviewing and monitoring our own delivery work under the same judgement we apply to a client’s platform. We extend it into engagements only where it earns its place alongside the same discipline of documentation and review, never as a substitute for either.
